The tour de force of female handicraft merged with science, environmental awareness and community effort that is The Irish Reef, which is a satellite of the Hyperbolic Crochet Coral Reef originally which was on display at the Science Gallery Dublin during the spring this year is now on show in Tinahely in the Courthouse Arts Centre in Tinahely, Co Wicklow.
Very many members of the Tinahely Guild have submitted pieces to the exhibition, among them are Eileen Doran, Helen McDonnell, Breda Clear, Betty Cumiskey, Marley Kavannagh and two members, Madge Kenny and Irene Lundgaard, have even had their pieces curated by the Wertheim Sisters, the originators of the international exhibition. The curated pieces are to go on display at The Smithsonian this autumn in the international display.
The Irish Reef exhibition will run until October 29th and there will be workshops in marine biology, geometry and hyperbolic crochet on Saturday October 2nd and 23rd. See details below.
Guided tours of The Irish Reef can be arranged during the day on Tuesdays and Wednesdays or on Sunday afternoons. Contact Irene Lundgaard for this: irene@yarnclasses.com.
The exhibition is exhilarating and liberating and we thoroughly recommend that you go and see it with or without a guide.
